College Life Update🏫

🐉I LIIIIIIIVEEEEEEE!!! (It’s from Mulan… I love Mushu).

It’s Friday! (WOOT WOOT) Happy Friday, everyone! If you can believe it, I made it through my first week of college classes. Phew.

Oh my gosh, so…HI YOU GUYS! HOW ARE YOU? I am just great (and a bit tired). I am so happy it’s Friday because it means I get a little reprieve from all the hustle and bustle of the week. (But I still have lots of work/study to get done!) I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted and I am so sorry. I have been so busy with studying, attending lectures, getting things done and all that fancy stuff… and I just haven’t had time for really anything else, but the “needful.”

My classes have been challenging, fun (I am a huge science geek), and stressful. I had two quizzes this week and I have a paper due on Monday (yay…). The quizzes went really well! I got 9/10 on my biology quiz (I changed my answer last minute… NEVER DO THAT UNLESS YOU’VE MARKED IT INCORRECTLY) and then I got a 10/10 on my English quiz. I love all my professors; they are all so nice and you can really tell that they want nothing more than to see their students succeed, which I think is just bombsauce.

Let me just say that I am so glad my mother taught me how to manage my time well; managing your time well is very, very important in college… (Thanks, Mom!) Lauren and I did really well this week, I think. At first, we struggled in terms of keeping our stress at bay. We really learned to lean on each other and help each other during the tough moments. As the week went on, things got easier and less overwhelming (even when the workload continued to grow). We managed to study hard, learn lots, do well on our first quizzes…. And stay sane (assuming we were sane prior to college)!😜

College Food

So if I had a dime for every time someone said I’ll be eating the classic college food “ramen” every night for dinner… I’d be rich! But the whole ramen thing is definitely not the case here at my university (WE HAVE A PIZZA ATM). The caf is, like, amazing. They have a pasta station where they make pasta to your taste, a sandwich station, a full dessert station with pastries, and then a station that has a whole meal put together for you already! AND THEY HAVE SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM (it’s hard to resist that stuff but I am doing pretty well so far and pacing myself). All in all, the food is really great (although nothing compares to homemade food from Mom and Dad).

College Life

I don’t mind being on my own… I actually like it (not that I dislike having Mum and Dada around). I’ve always been pretty independent so it’s not too weird to be on my own, but it’s definitely different to have to make my own appointments, pick up my own mail from the mail center, and go shopping (in another state) all by myself. That’s not to say I dislike it, though. I like responsibility!😃

Dorm Situation

I love our dorm! It’s super cute and pretty roomy in comparison to other universities I looked at. My roomies are pretty bombsauce, too! My sister is one of those roomies, but the other roomie is not related to us and she’s super nice. Lauren and I couldn’t have asked for a better roommate!

It’s been a very long week and I miss my mom and dad’s homemade food (and them of course), my doggies, and my friends. But I am enjoying my time here at my university, for sure. I can’t wait to see where this adventure takes me!

I will try my best to check in at the end of every week! I will most likely post on Fridays because it’s not smack bang in the middle of the week. So if you see that I am posting a TTT on Friday and not Tuesday… No, it’s not you, it’s me😂! I still want to post bookish things on here in addition to my college adventures. (UGH I miss reading… Well reading novels and not academic stuff)

Anyway! I hope y’all are well! Stay tuned for more college updates… And bookish stuff!

Book Review: Forever Doon🏰 by Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon

Hey, everyone! I am finally getting around to this review and I am so sorry it took forever to get it up. I have been so, so busy! Although last week was chaotic, it was still a bombsauce week. I got to get on the ice and skate with my besties, Lauren, Tim, and Bailey! What more could I want?! My friend, Bailey, even bought Lauren and me a “Squad Goals” shirt so the three of us could twin! If you want to hear more about what went on throughout this week, I will be uploading a “Week of Goodbyes and Emotional Instability” post to review it all! (Oh, and I haven’t forgotten the quote journal post! I’m working on it!)

I’d have posted this around my regular time (in the morning), but I had a death in the family. My uncle Malcolm passed away (he had brain cancer) this morning. I’ve had a lot of deaths in the family this year – my great gramma, my grandpa, my very first doggie, and now my beloved uncle Malcolm. It’s been a rough year, but I know that my late family members are in a much better place now. My uncle was a really special person. He had a great sense of humor… He always made me laugh and smile! He had such a big heart… he was always so sweet, caring, and kind and I am truly honored to have known such a man as him… and call him “Uncle.” ✝️ Please pray for his kids, my two cousins, who are going through so much pain right now. I can’t even imagine what they are going through.

Okay. So let’s get to the review shall we? Be forewarned: The following content will contain spoilers or those who’ve not yet read the books before Forever Doon.

Top Five Pet Peeves – As Relates to Books📖

Hey y’all! How are you? I hope you’re well and enjoying what’s left of summer! Only three more days and then classes start. WOAH! I am so excited to learn, learn and learn! Hopefully, y’all are, too.

Before I talk about today’s topic…

College update!!

I am all moved in to uni! And that’s why I haven’t been posting as much lately. I’m sorry I haven’t been on, but I will do my best to post every once in a while! The first week is going to be really hard in terms of posting here so don’t expect anything super… In-depth in terms of reviews! I actually might not even be able to post at all (Ugh, that pains me). I am having a great time at my uni though so far! I slept over one night, Thursday night and it was good. My birthday was also yesterday (Thursday) and it was cool to have it on the same day as move in and the little celebration (more like big) my uni puts on! OH! And…Shout out to my RA who put a happy birthday sign and lollipop on my sister and my dorm room door!! 😊

If you’re in college, whether it’s community college or university, I’m praying for you! ❤️

Moving on…

So I was thinking of post ideas – you know, besides book reviews… And this idea to post about my pet peeves popped into my head! I was actually just going to do regular, everyday pet peeves, but my brilliant sister asked me, “Why the heck would you do that if you have a BOOK blog? Do bookworm pet peeves!” So I can’t truly take the credit of this being my idea – it’s partially my idea and Lolli’s idea. Like always, put our two heads together and you’ll get something bombsauce. I hope you think this is bombsauce because that would be awkward if you didn’t! 😂

My top five bookie pet peeves:

  1. When the hardback cover art is just perfect the way it is and then the paperback comes out and cover art is different…and somewhat ugly😂😵😝
  2. When the cover art of the first novel is just fine, but then the cover art on the rest of the novels is completely different so the books don’t match
  3. When the author doesn’t finish a series. I read a book called Forbidden by Syrie James and Ryan James and it ended on a huge cliffhanger and a sequel hasn’t been released! Same thing with the Mystic City trilogy (Theo Lawrence)! There’s no final book (yet)…🙄 It kills me!
  4. When authors put a whole bunch of names (for characters, places and more) that you can’t, for the life of you, pronounce! I don’t mind it when there’s a pronunciation guide, but when the word is practically gibberish and there’s no pronunciation guide, it gets a wee bit annoying!
  5. When authors don’t end up answering all of the questions presented in previous novels so you feel as though the series is unfinished.

I hope all this made sense because I am so, so tired! Hope y’all have a great weekend!

📚Books I’ll Be Taking to College🏫

Hey, bookworms! Hope y’all are doing well and reading lots!❤️

So, as promised, I am posting the list of books I will be taking with me to college. Man, this was a really hard decision to make, but I finally figured it out…Kinda. I sort of want to take a sixth book, but I have to see how much space I end up having by the end of the weekend!

Books I am bringing with me to university:

  1. The Hourglass Door by Lisa Magnum
  2. The Golden Spiral (THD #2) by Lisa Magnum
  3. The Forgotten Locket (THD #3) by Lisa Magnum
  4. Stars Above by Marissa Meyer
  5. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I will also be bringing along my quote book, which has my personal thoughts and poems, as well as quotes and poems from authors and verses from the bible. I started it a few years ago and I absolutely love it! If you don’t already have something of the sort, you should definitely try it out. I will do a special post for how to do this sort of thing and I’ll include pics of the journal so you can get an idea! I really like it because it’s so relaxing, especially before bed!

Injury/skating update: So I skated yesterday with my besties and it was a lot of fun! I couldn’t really do too much, but it was nice to be on the ice with my friends. I loved watching them! They are all so talented⛸ and bombsauce. I am so glad we all got to spend time together. I am so blessed to have them all in my life and so grateful for the opportunity to skate with them over the years.

Book update: So I mentioned on Tuesday that I finished Forever Doon (Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon). Yesterday was so busy that I just didn’t have any time to begin my review (sorry!)… I am currently working on the review, but it most likely won’t be up until Monday! I might post it over the weekend, but this weekend is going to be crazy because of all the packing and stuff I have to get done before we leave. Anyway! I started reading An Ember in the Ashes yesterday and oh man, it’s already so good. Can’t wait to keep reading!

I’ve probably already asked this question, but if/when you go to college, what books would you take with you and why?

Stay tuned, bookworms💗 Have a lovely Thursday!

Happy Tuesday, everyone, and happy book lover’s day!! 😍

Exactly one week from today, I will be leaving for uni… Wow. That is just crazy! This week’s theme is “goodbyes,” while last week was things my sister and I will do for the last time (for a while, at least). It’s going to be a very emotional week…🌧

This Tuesday is “Top Ten Tuesday: Rewind” in which you revisit a topic that you wrote on a while ago or never even got to do. I am going to do “Books I Wish I could Read Again for the First Time!” The Broke and the Bookish hosts this bombsauce activity every week… Be sure to check our their blog!

My Thoughts on Nerve by Jeanne Ryan📱

Hello lovelies! So today I am giving you my thoughts on Nerve by Jeanne Ryan. I am going to be honest with you, I couldn’t finish the book. Once I put it down, I just couldn’t get myself to pick it up again. I guess it’s just not my kind of story, but that doesn’t mean it’s not your type! If the book sounds good to you, try it.

📜Synopsis (straight from the back of the book):

Are you playing the game or is the game playing you?

Vee doest’t know if she has the guts to play NERVE, an anonymous online game of dares. But whoever’s behind the game knows exactly what she wants, enticing her with lustworthy prizes and a sizzling hot partner. With Ian on her team, it’s easy to agree to another dare. And another. And another. At first, it’s thrilling as the Watchers cheer them on to more dangerous challenges. But suddenly the game trust deadly. Will Vee and Ian risk their lives to win the Grand Prize dare, or will they lose NERVE?

I didn’t really care for the protagonist, Vee, who, to me, is reckless and desperate for attention. Especially, from one guy in particular – Matthew. One thing that really annoyed me was that she was totally blind to the fact that Tommy, a really sweet guy, liked her! She was just so focused on Matthew the whole time. I thought it was really cute, though, when Tommy always said nice, sweet things on camera about Vee before filming her carrying out the NERVE dares. Tommy is definitely a better choice than Matthew… I didn’t really care for Matthew’s personality to be honest!

Nerve (The Game)

While the idea of a game with dares is cool and unlike anything I’ve read or heard of, I actually didn’t really care for it. The prizes weren’t that great (new shoes, a makeover, a new cell phone) and the dares were silly and weird – nothing to really rave about.
I also felt like there was a disconnect between character and the reader in terms of why she keeps playing NERVE. Especially after she completes her first dare. I mean, new this and that are contributing factors as to why Vee would play again, but I felt like it needed another dimension in addition to the prizes. Was it the adrenaline rush that kept her playing – the feeling of doing something daring and different?  I feel like, as the reader, I should feel more inclined to want her to play, but I didn’t really feel that way at all. The book… It didn’t compel to me read further. The writing didn’t draw me in and keep me there.

I give Nerve a 1.5 rating. A 1 star rating means I strongly disliked the book and couldn’t finish it. I didn’t strongly dislike this book (so that’s why I gave it 1.5 stars), but I didn’t care for it… and I couldn’t finish it. I did like the idea, though… It’s very unique. It’s too bad I didn’t end up liking it/finishing it because I had really high hopes for Nerve. Maybe I will go back and try to read it sometime in the future!

Have you read Nerve? If so, how did you like it? Why did or didn’t you like it? What did/n’t you like about it?

I’d be really interested to see what the move is like… I probably won’t get the chance to see it, though, before I leave for uni. But if y’all have seen the movie, how did you like it? 📽

College update: Only ten days until move-in! And until my 18th birthday😱

Injury update: Today is my last physical therapy appointment! But not because I am well enough to go without PT (I am definitely better, though)😂… but because I am leaving so there’s no point in getting cleared for more appointments! I am going to be so sad to leave everyone. My family and I have gone there for years (yeah, we’ve had a lot of injuries). Everyone there… They are all so close to my heart and I am so glad to have had them in my life!❤️ #Blessed

I hope everyone has a fantastically blessed Monday! XOXO!!

Flashback Friday Review!🎀

Happy, happy Friday, you guys!🎀 Today is my mom’s birthday! Woot woot! Happy birthday, momma bear!!🎉Love you, Mumma!

Do y’all have any fun plans this weekend? My weekend isn’t going to be too interesting, really. My dada, sister, and I will be going in our pool on Saturday🏊 and either on Friday or Sunday, we will be watching The Jungle Book at the movie theater! I love The Jungle Book because Mowgli reminds me of my dad when he was younger and living in India. Anyway, it’ll be a nice, relaxing weekend, which is just fine by me!

Today’s FBF review is on…

Book Review: Her Dark Curiosity by Megan Shepherd🔬

Hey, you guys! I hope y’all are doing fantastic. I know I am! I am soaking up what’s left of summer because the summer fun is coming to a close quite soon! Only 14 days until move-in day… which means that there’s only 12 days until I leave for university.

Pretty crazy!

Soak up what’s left of summer, you guys, because the days are going to go by faster and faster and before you know it…. You’ll be back in school!

Well. That’s a little depressing! Well. For those of you who are still in high school, that is (if you’re feeling senioritis-y, I mean)! I am SO excited to start this new adventure called college!! Even if it’ll be a lot of hard work. I love working hard and overcoming challenges anyway.😃 (Okay, I used ‘well’ way too many times just now😂)

Moving On…

So. I finally finished Her Dark Curiosity. Emphasis on finally! It wasn’t that the book was boring or anything, though; I am still going through that reading funk I mentioned the other day. Plus, I’ve been SO busy running around! There’s so much to do… Packing, buying, getting things done on my school’s portal, ordering books and dorm stuff… Yikes! Not only that, but I’ve been going out and doing things “for the last time – at least for a while” since we are leaving, which includes hanging out with friends and stuff like that. Although it’s been busy and stressful at times, it’s been a lot of fun.

Anyway! It’s…

August TBR📚 and College Updates🏫

Happy August first, you guys! It’s move-in month, my birth month, and the month in which Forever Doon (by Carie Corp and Lorie Langdon) and The Beauty of Darkness (Mary E. Pearson) come out!

This month is going to be one loaded month! I am so excited to start college🏫 and meet new people… to learn more and to go on exciting adventures. This whole college thingis an adventure! I am excited to live in another state that actually experiences the seasons. Ooo it’s going to be so bombsauce. I am definitely going to miss all my skating friends and family that are here at home, though. ❤️

“I was born with a reading list I will never finish.” – Maud Casey

Unfortunately, Maud Casey speaks the truth, but hey, on the bright side, we will never run out of reading material and that’s definitely a good thing! I was talking to my mom and sister the other day and I was saying that when I am an adult (older than 18, I mean) and later on in life (way later), a mother, I will still be reading YA fiction! 😂 There’s no way I can just stop reading YA fiction – there are just way too many amazing books out there, you know?

College and Reading

This TBR is going to be for the whole month, as per usual, but please note that I will be moving into college on the 18th (my birthday!…and Lauren’s) and starting classes on the 22nd, which means that, for a little while, I will not be able to do any free reading or post as often as I do now. Oh, how it pains me to say that. There won’t be many books on this TBR because… I can only pack so many books.😩 That’s going to be fun – trying to decide which books to take and which to leave behind. I will definitely be bringing The Hourglass Door trilogy with me. Those books are A MUST. I am also thinking of bringingStars Above (Marissa Meyer) because short stories are a perfect little getaway during busy bee college times!

Okay…Wait. ⏹

My bombsauce friend, Abby, just asked if my university has a library. It does! She said to see if I can get the type of books I read from there. I looked and from what I gathered, I can’t get the books that I read from their library (YA fiction), but I can get it from another library that has a partnership with my school and they will just send me the books!

Brilliant! The problem of having access to reading material is now solved.

But. I still won’t be able to read and review as often as I do now (AHH, that makes me really sad!😭),  I will do my best to post as often as I can. I don’t want to just stop writing on here completely. I’m going to be honest; there will be a week or two that I may not get to post at all (gosh that makes me so sad😭), but please don’t stop checking in! I love y’all lots so… You should stick with me throughout college. PLUS… I will be posting about my college adventures whenever I get the chance. Y’all don’t wanna miss that, now do you?

Didn’t think so!😉

I am still bringing a few books, though. Like I said, I am definitely bringing The Hourglass Door trilogy by Lisa Magnum and Stars Above by Marissa Meyer. That’s four books. Hm. What else should I bring? I want to bring new books that I have in my shelf that I haven’t read yet. This is the list of new books in my shelf (new books meaning the start of a new series I’ve not yet read):

The Glittering Court by Richelle Mead

Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan

Vitro by Jessica Khoury

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

An Ember in the Ashes is in my August TBR (below) so I guess I should bring it. Well, I could always request it to be sent to my school, you know? Goodness! This is a hard decision to make… I’ll let you guys know what I end up bringing with me to college in a special post!

TBR Time!

So… I, obviously, didn’t finish all of the books on my July TBR. Oopsie! I did put a lot on there and added three or four books later on in the month. 🙄 I couldn’t help myself after that book haul! I did try my hardest, though… I read like crazy! I’ve read quite a few books these past couple of months and it’s been so bombsauce! So many great stories…I feel like I read more than five books in July. Well. I read/finish reading Winter by Marissa Meyer early in July… So I read six books. Still feels like I read more, though!

Favorite new book on my July TBR has to go to… both Gone by Michael Grant and The Madman’s Daughter by Megan Shepherd.

Favorite final book in a trilogy/series has to go to… The Countdown by Kimberly Derting. LOVED THE ENDING.

Anyway. Here’s my August TBR (not necessarily in this order):

Nerve by Jeanne Ryan

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

A Cold Legacy by Megan Shepherd

The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson

Forever Doon by Carie Corp and Lorie Langdon

The Book of Ivy by Amy Engel

One of the books I am really looking forward to is Nerve. Y’all may or may not have heard of it, but it’s actually a movie! I believe it is coming out soon..that, or it has already come out. The movie is actually an adaption of the book! How bombsauce is that? (I will be interested to see how the movie and book compare… If I end up watching the movie!) The reason I am so excited to read Nerve is because of the game idea; The Forbidden Game: The Hunt/The Chase/The Kill by L.J. Smith involves a dangerous game as well. (Oh how I wish that were a movie!) I read the trilogy eight times because it was just so good. I just couldn’t get enough of it. Of course, these two books will have different plots and outcomes, but both involve a dangerous game… so that’s why I am super excited to read Nerve.

Have any of you guys read Nerve? Or any of the books mentioned in this post? How did you like them?

What books are on your August TBR? Let me know in the comment box below!

I hope y’all have a wonderful Monday. Stay cool! It’s gonna be another hot day. 🔥
