🧐Flashback Friday: Oldie books with new beginnings

Good afternoon, bookworms!

Happy Friday! I hope you are all having a lovely week. Are you ready for the weekend?! Tomorrow is my dad’s birthday🥳 I am excited to celebrate with him. I can’t put much of any details in here about what we are doing because he is subscribed. 😂 But it is going to be a great day and I am really happy that he is here so we can celebrate in person together. I even got to take the day off, which is nice! I have not had a Saturday off in weeks so I am going to really enjoy it😊

Flashback Friday is a weekly meme hosted here @HerBookishDesires that seeks to highlight oldie but goodie novels with the goal of brining them back into the spotlight. It is my hope that, through this meme, we can discover – and rediscover – oldie but goodie novels together. Each week, there is a new topic which can be found here.

This week’s topic is Oldie Books with New Beginnings.

Obsidian (Lux, #1)

Synopsis:

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Moonglass

Synopsis:

I read once that water is a symbol for emotions. And for a while now, I’ve thought maybe my mother drowned in both.

Anna’s life is upended when her father accepts a job transfer the summer before her junior year. It’s bad enough that she has to leave her friends and her life behind, but her dad is moving them to the beach where her parents first met and fell in love–a place awash in memories that Anna would just as soon leave under the surface.

While life on the beach is pretty great, with ocean views and one adorable lifeguard in particular, there are also family secrets that were buried along the shore years ago. And the ebb and flow of the ocean’s tide means that nothing–not the sea glass that she collects on the sand and not the truths behind Anna’s mother’s death–stays buried forever.

Dangerous Lies

A teen is forced to make a fresh start after witnessing a violent crime—but love and danger find her anyway in this novel from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.

Stella Gordon is not her real name. Thunder Basin, Nebraska, is not her real home. This is not her real life.

After witnessing a lethal crime, Stella Gordon is sent to the middle of nowhere for her own safety before she testifies against the man she saw kill her mother’s drug dealer.

But Stella was about to start her senior year with the boyfriend she loves. How can she be pulled away from the only life she knows and expected to start a new one in Nebraska? Stella chafes at her protection and is rude to everyone she meets. She’s not planning on staying long, so why be friendly? Then she meets Chet Falconer and it becomes harder to keep her guard up, even as her guilt about having to lie to him grows.

As Stella starts to feel safer, the real threat to her life increases—because her enemies are actually closer than she thinks…

Haven (Winterhaven, #1)

Synopsis:

Violet McKenna thought she was crazy when she had a vivid vision of her dad’s murder—but when her premonition came true, her life fell apart. Then she found a new school: Winterhaven. There, Violet fits right in. All the students have special “gifts” like her own, and she quickly finds a close group of friends. But Violet’s attraction to an alluring boy becomes problematic when intense visions of his death start to haunt her. In her premonitions, the secret he is unwilling to share begins to reveal itself—and the unbelievable becomes reality. To Violet’s horror, she learns that their destinies are intertwined in a critical—and deadly—way

🌞The Sunday Post: 2/14/2021 🥰🌹❤️

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! 🥰🌹❤️
I hope you are all having a lovely weekend so far and a great start to Valentine’s Day! My sister got me flowers and my favorite Ghirardelli dark chocolate caramel squares. I have the best sister ever. My plans for today are not super glamorous 😂 but I really don’t mind. It is too cold to do anything anyway and we are expecting a snow storm so best to stay in this evening. The plan is to work out with my bestie this morning, read (finish) A Court of Frost and Starlight, and watch some movies/TV shows. In terms of TV shows, I think I am going to watch the Valentine’s Day episode for H2O (yes, I still like that show 😂) and watch some Bridgerton. I am not quite sure what movie I will watch. Maybe Pride and Prejudice or Romeo and Juliet. I also have to do some work before I work tomorrow and some meal prep so that is also on the docket for today. What plans do you have for today?

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @CaffeinatedReviewer where we “recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog” – Kimberly @CaffeinatedReviewer. See meme info here.

🌞The Sunday Post: 01/17/2021

Greetings my lovely friends!
I hope you are all doing well. It is lightly snowing here today❄️ so I think my day is going to most be spent with hot tea, a book and a blanket after I get finished with the rest of my weekend chores! I may have neglected them yesterday… 😬

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @CaffeinatedReviewer where we discuss bloggish news, recap what has gone on with the blog and highlight any upcoming blog stuff. (So eloquently written, I know 😂) See here for the info page.

Books I Finished:
🧙🏻‍♀️😈Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco (Ya Fantasy)
🌌🌙A Strange Hymn by Laura Thalassa (New Adult, Romance, Fantasy – The Bargainer series #2)
🌌🌙Dark Harmony by Laura Thalassa (New Adult, Romance, Fantasy – The Bargainer series #3)

So I may have totally binged read The Bargainer trilogy 😂 But damn, it was really good! I am surprised that this series does not have as much hype around it. If you are a fan of SJM’s ACOTAR or JLA’s FBAA, then you will definitely like The Bargainer trilogy.

Currently Reading:
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
I know… I am moving somewhat slow through this book but that is because I was totally distracted with The Bargainer series. I will finish CK this week! 😂

Yearly Reading Goal Update: 7/100
In my Jan 2021 Goals post, I gave a range of 60-100 but then in my TTT post I said 100 books😂 So I am going to just go for it and set the goal at 100.

“Shoot for the moon and even if you miss, you’ll land amongst the stars…”

Les Brown

January Reading Update: 7/10

What’s Left on my Jan TBR:
The Stand by Stephen King (1440 pages)
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
~Given that The Stand is soooo long, I might just start that at the beginning of February. I really want to make my goal of reading 10 books and I feel like I will just put off reading The Stand if I also start reading a second book at the same time. We will see! I will update you all on Wednesday. 😊

🧐Flashback Friday: Oldie but Goodie Authors – Then and Now

Happy Friday, everyone!
I hope you are all doing well. This week has been a pretty long week for me and I definitely ready for today to be over and it to be officially the weekend. 😴

Flashback Friday is a weekly meme hosted here @HerBookishDesires that focuses on older novels with the goal of bringing them back into the spotlight. It is my hope that, through this weekly meme, we can discover and rediscover older books together! 😊 If you have any suggestions for future topics, please feel free to let me know in the comments! I would love to hear your suggestions!! Feel free to participate in this post! It would make my day, truly!

This week’s topic is Oldie but Goodie Authors – Then and Now. This idea was suggested to me by my friend, Olivia! Basically, we were thinking of something where the post includes an oldie book and a newer book from the same author that is an “oldie but goodie” author for you! I apologize if the title isn’t the best at indicating that. I am not the best with titling! 😂 A huge thank you to Olivia for suggesting this week’s topic!

Oldie but Goodie Authors – Then and Now

Oldie but Goodie Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

I know FBAA is considered New Adult while Lux is YA, but I haven’t read any of Jen’s other books (YET!!). I really want to read her other novels and am really hoping to read them this year!

Oldie but Good Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I still need to finish The Naturals series but I remember really liking it when I read it. It really reminds of the TV show, “Criminal Minds” – but in book format! I have The Inheritance Games on my TBR!

Oldie but Good Author: Melissa Marr

I was going to include Wicked Lovely instead of Made for You but I feel as though Made for You is less well known as Wicked Lovely so I included it instead. 😊 I have no yet read The Wicked and the Dead and I didn’t even know it was a new book until I was searching through my oldie but goodie authors 😂 I will have to add it to my TBR.

Oldie but Goodie Author: Veronica Roth

I loved the Divergent series even though the end destroyed me. 😂 Since Divergent, I have not read anything from Veronica Roth. The Chosen Ones is an adult fantasy novel that was published in 2020. She does have another YA series called Carve the Mark but I just figured I would go with her most recent publication.

That is all I have selected for today’s Flashback Friday post! I hope you all enjoyed this post. 🥰

I hope you all have a great Friday and weekend. Catch up with you guys soon!

✨📚🏅Outstanding Blogger Award

Happy Monday everyone!
Only 4 days until Christmas, can you believe it? I am lucky enough to have 2 Christmas celebrations, one of which begins on the 23rd! I am really excited. I love this time of year!

Today I am posting my Outstanding Blogger Award post! I am so happy to have been nominated. Thank you so much Hayden @FollowingGoodBooks for nominating me. It seriously makes my day when I get a nomination!!❤️🥰😁 Be sure to check out Hayden’s blog! Hayden has wonderful content and you won’t regret checking out their site!

Rules:

  1. Provide the link to the creator’s original award post. (very important: see why in step 5)
  2. Answer the questions provided.
  3. Create 7 unique questions.
  4. Nominate 10 bloggers. Ensure that they are aware of their nomination. Neither the award’s creator, nor the blogger that nominated you, can be nominated.
  5. At the end of 2020, every blog that ping-backs the creator’s original post will be entered to win the 2020 Outstanding Blogger Award!

Hayden’s Questions for Nominees: I apologize in advance for the long answers 😂

1.What most inspires you to blog?
I would say that my love for reading and storytelling inspires me to blog! I have always wanted to share my love for books with others that have an interest in reading and now that I have found a platform that I can do that… that is all the inspiration I need! Besides that (I feel like that was a lame – but true – answer), I would also say that I am very inspired by all the other bloggers in the book blogging community. You all have amazing content and you inspire me to become a better blogger every day!
2.What is your favorite book of 2020?
This is such a tough question! I loved Wicked Saints, BUT I think I will have to say my favorite book was Serpent and Dove. After I read it, I immediately wanted to re-read it (or get the next book) and that is how I know I really, really loved the book. I also couldn’t stop talking about it 😂
3.What is a favorite you’ve been wanting to re-read?
I would say… Lux by Jennifer Armentrout. It has been a while since I last read it and I just love the series.
4.What is your most anticipated book of 2021?
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas
5.What are your goals for your blog?
My goal when I first started blogging again in September/October was to get more involved in the book blogging community, increase my followers, and become a better book blogger. I have definitely been able to do the first two 😂 I think becoming a better book blogger is something to always work on. I think right now, my goals for this blog are to keep bettering my posts, become more creative in what I post, etc. Lastly, I think a goal of my blog is to make Flashback Friday a thing. 😂 It is a meme that I created and I hope it catches on! If not, that’s okay too but a goal is for it to become something others participate in as well!
6.Are there any kinds of posts you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t yet?
I have done some tags but recently I haven’t been posting them! I am sure there are other kinds of posts that I have yet to try but I am drawing a blank. 😂 I did want to do a blogmas set of posts but I need to work on being creative when it comes to post ideas! I also want to participate in Let’s Talk Bookish but I feel as though my thoughts are never as well outlined as everyone else so I just don’t end up posting 😂. One of these days!
7.What is something you’ve learned in 2020?
Patience. I applied to medical school this year and the process is long. It requires an insane amount of patience. I thought I knew patience prior to this process, buttttt I will say that this has schooled me in a new kind of patience.

My questions for nominees:
1. If you could live in one bookish setting, where would you live?
2. Favorite book cover of 2020 (the book does not have to be published in 2020, you just had to read it!)
3. What have you learned (about yourself, blogging, reading) since you started blogging?
4. What gets you out of a reading and/or blogging slump?
5. Why did you start book blogging?
6. What is your most hated book trope? Most loved?
7. If you could only pick 3 books to read for the rest of your life, what would they be?

Nominees:

  1. Rachael @TheGreenTeaLibrarian
  2. Dini @DiniPandaReads
  3. Jess @JustReadingJess
  4. Robin @Paperbacks and Planners
  5. Cat @ThisIsOneForTheBooks
  6. Tree and Bree @Words About Words
  7. Hannah @Hannah’s Library
  8. Donna @MomsBookCollection
  9. Jessica @thebookwormchronicles
  10. Lexie @ReadingInTheWings

Be sure to check out all of their blogs, too! They all have great content and I enjoy reading their posts! Thank you again to Hayden @FollowingGoodBooks for nominating me!!🥰

Catch up with you guys tomorrow for Top Ten Tuesday!

The Sunday Post🌞

Happy Sunday, everyone. I am not sure about you guys, but where I live it is a very cloudy, rainy and windy Sunday morning!🌦 I am currently in my jammies with some green tea☕️ in hand, typing up⌨️ this post. I have really come to enjoy these quiet mornings with my tea, my thoughts and my keyboard.😌

Today’s post is The Sunday Post, a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer. It serves as a way to recap the past week and share news about posts or events coming up our blogs!

This week – just last night, actually – I finished The Princess will Save You by Sarah Henning! I was curious at the beginning if there would be a second novel and I definitely think there is going to be one because TPWSY ended on a bit of a cliffhanger! And… I also just checked and there is another book (it is a duology) so yay! 😂

📚Number of books read this month: 2/10
📚Number of books read this year : 7 (since starting reading in Oct)
My goal is to read at least 20 books by the end of this year. I know it isn’t the most ambitious goal, but I did just start (hardcore) reading again in October so I think it is an attainable goal. Plus, better to exceed expectations, right?!

📖Currently Reading: Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller
📖Number of pages in: 45

Last week on the blog:

I realize I didn’t post that much last week… sometimes life be like that, you know? BUT. I have some great things in the making for next week!😊

Upcoming Posts:

🧐Flashback Friday: Novels with Fallen Angels😇🚫 (weekly meme hosted here @HerBookishDesires)

Eventually, I will have a book review posted. It is taking me a while to write it; I haven’t written one in a long, long time (4 years give/take a few months). I am also a science person and in college, scientific writing is simple and, for lack of a better word, plain. Soooo beautiful writing… not something I do well anymore (😂) and I am definitely self-conscious about putting a book review out into the world because of that.😳😂

Anyway, I digress…

Upcoming Events:
🎅🏼HoHoHo Read-a-thon❄️ Nov. 19-30 hosted by Kimberly @CaffeinatedReviewer
